Carhartt Men’s CMS4100 4″ Romeo Work Boot

A ride along the countryside, your favorite show re-airing, a surprise greeting card in the mail box, those shoes that you fell in love once in the past, it is always the small things that make a difference in life. For me, the Carhartt Men’s CMS4100 Romeo work boots recently took me on a trip down memory lane. I don’t recall the first ever work boots I got as a gift from my parents but I do remember that they looked eerily similar to these Carhartts.

To start with, the boots use 4 inch uppers made from dark brown leather with a flexible soft fit and oil tan to repel water without compromising on durability. Add to this the twin gore openings and your feet will love sliding into them day after day. The simple yet sleek style is clean and perfect for work places that demand a sober and disciplined look. The slightly contoured insoles help in perfecting every step you take while its soft pillow cushioning helps in ensuring comfort. In fact, durability and repairs seem like afterthoughts thanks to the welt stitching.

Some of the interesting features that make these Carhartt slip on boots for men special are:

  • Twin Gore slip-on entry system with reinforced pull loops.
  • Goodyear welt stitching for durability.
  • Waterproof rubber soles with steel shanks.
  • Oil, chemical and slip resistant design.
  • Ortholite insoles with Oil tanned exteriors.

The Pros

To test out the Carhartt Men’s CMS4100 I took a two mile walk trying to mimic my early school days when I would walk over uneven terrain to school and back. The immediate impression it creates is that of an extra wide size with a lot of room for the toes to wiggle in. This is definitely a good thing for folks who wish to wear their slip on boots all day long. As I started traveling over the hills on a country road, I felt the roomy nature dragging my feet back exerting a slight pressure on the ankles. Nevertheless, they seemed super comfortable even on the first day. I’m sure a bit more break-in will definitely help them conform to the shape of my feet.

It handles water puddles well, never slips up even on concrete and cemented floors while being suitably protected against major work hazards to qualify as one of the best slip on work boots for men.

The Cons

Probably the extra lightweight construction is its biggest disadvantage. Lack of toe box protection and the comfort oriented features make the Carhartt Men’s CMS4100 a decent daily purpose work boot but not something you would ideally want to wear in hazardous work environments. Moreover, because of its extra wide nature, you may want to consider a size smaller than what you normally wear.

If it is just about the looks and comfort on a daily basis, I would give the Carhartt Men’s slip on Romeo boots a perfect 5 out of 5. However, taking everything into context, this slip on boot is an average work site performer but a must have accessory for times when you don’t really need heavy boots around. They are the ideal go-anywhere boots.
